Family day weekend in Toronto. A relatively new long weekend that happens to coincide with President’s Day in the United States of America. A nice chance for families to get together and spend quality time together. This year, my wife, 2 kids and I decided to have a “stay cation”. That’s when we get to be tourists in our own city. We visited the CN tower, which I hadn’t seen since I was 10 and the views were awesome. We went skating at city hall and had some great meals in the Distillery District, where you can explore the old buildings that housed Toronto’s biggest beer and alcohol distillery.
SET UP
2 night stay at the hotel, we all shared one room with 2 queen beds. Kids in one and the Mrs. and I in the other.
MATTRESS
Simmons Beautyrest Recharge Pillowtop – PLUSH. Mattress was set up on a recessed wood platform with no box spring and no chance of stubbing your toe. A nice change from the regular box spring and metal frame rig, but…..
SLEEP
Night one was mostly uncomfortable, though mostly due to temperature controls and that we didn’t turn the heat down. Needless to say, the sweats that I was experiencing were in direct relation to that, as I went to bed sober. 10 PM – 8 AM. Night 2 was a much better sleep due to controlling temperatures and a few glasses of wine. 11 PM – 7 AM, we had to get the kids to school, otherwise would have slept for days.
LINENS AND ACCESSORIES
Linens were a 60/40 poly cotton 320 thread count, dobby stripe white to be exact. Very comfortable linen and great alternative down pillows. My kind of pillow. I like to tuck my arm under it when sleeping on my side, so it was very compatible for my sleeping style. Comfy and manipulatable. One very annoying aspect was instead of fitted bottom sheets, they use flat sheets. Not uncommon, but remember the lack of box spring? Right, exactly, no where to tuck the sheets under! Both nights we ended up touching the under mattress protector – ew! Must use fitted sheets for this kind of situation!
OVERALL
Very nice mattress, comfy, cozy and plush. Not necessarily what you find in most hotels, as firmness comes into play. I think a lot of people have a misconception that a softer mattress has no support and that a firmer one has lots. Not the case! Simmons has a great reputation of making quality mattresses and this one stood behind it.
