Beacon Me Up, Scottie

March 10-12, 2026 NYC

How many times can you go to one city and enjoy it? I guess it depends on the city, right? NYC is one of those places because quite frankly, you can't see it all in one go or even 2 or 3 or 50 times and there is always something new. It's like outer space, so much to explore, so many unseen areas, so many new and exciting discoveries to be had and of course this was one of those times. As you are aware from previous posts, the Mrs. has a new favorite band and they happen to be playing their now annual 10 night run at the very famous Beacon Theatre in NYC, which I have never been too. In an amazing coincidence, the Mrs. actually lived on top of the theatre along time ago in a life far away when she was studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy which is across the street from the Beacon. So she knew the venue well, but in all my life and some of my all time favs that have played there numerous times, like Bob and the Allman's, I never got to it. So thankfully, with the love that she has for TTB and the desire I had for the theatre, off we went for 2 nights to enjoy both the band and the theatre equally. We also decided to make this an upper west side trip. Nothing below 62nd! Discoveries all over the place and it was fantastic. Doing things that I have never done and being in places I have never seen. We had 2 great nights of the run, the first 2 shows, Tedeschi Trucks Band was in full control and they beamed us up into their "Future Soul" and took us to galaxies far away. When they played an old Joe Tex tune to finish off one night, I honestly thought if it was over that night I am satisfied with it all. The passion and love they have for each other and their audience. Stunning theatre, stunning weather, stunning city and my stunning wife. Packed it all in as always, the Museum of the City of NY was a bit underwhelming but if you have an hour to kill, it's a nice stop - even though that's upper east, but on the way to the airport and what's a visit to the upper west side without a stop at the Sturgeon King! Who even has time to sleep.

SET UP

King bed at the Empire Hotel - 63rd and Broadway. Great location right across from Lincoln Center or Center for the my US audience. Rooms were small and NY like but lovely lobby, wonderful staff and all you need. Rooms are a bit tired, but luckily after a call to front desk, the AC got fixed quickly and needed it. Very tight washroom, but again all you need.

MATTRESS

Private label for the Empire Hotel. Not bad at all, a bit tired and bouncy, but still able to find some nice sleep positions. American Signature is a furniture manufacturer and have their own labels across the country. Mini major and have all sorts of foam and coil products. This could be my first sleep on this brand and as above, not unsatisfied and understand that not every hotel is going to go with the popular and big brand names. You don't need a brand name to get a good night sleep, you need the support and conformability and this provided a hint of that.

SLEEP

The usual 8 hours, neither night was too late, a quick slice of pizza after the show hit just right, but in bed by high noon and up at 8-830 ready for the next hit of goodness. Luckily for the AC, as we happened to catch a 3 day stretch of really hot sun in mid March.

OVERALL

Fantastic few nights and as mentioned, eating places where we'd never been. Really fun adventures all upper west side, although I lied, we caught a matinee of Chess with Lea Michele. Terrific show, but below 62nd! We will continue to go to NYC, I hope 50 more times to discover all the beauty it has and to turn over more rocks and be baffled of what it has to offer. New restaurants, new museums and new highlights. Beam me up to NYC anytime. 🎼🎵🎤🎷🎙️🐟♟️🌞
