Los Amazing

The beautiful ROM across the street too.

March 8th - Toronto, ON

There are so many nights that you don't know about because they are so many local shows at local venues that doesn't require an overnight stay, and who wants to hear about my bed at home? I think I actually did write a covid piece about my bed as there were no hotels to be had! Anyways, I am also so lucky that the family, the Mrs. and the wallet drainers have an ear and a love and passion for live music like their old man. We have a few "family bands" over the years, Maroon 5 happened to be a band we saw 3 times, just worked out where we were, Charley Crockett a few times, Post Malone and of course Los Lobos. I remember having many dance parties in the basement with the kids many years ago, and Los Lobos would come on, and I always turned it up really loud! The kids loved their traditional Mexican repertoire and also the purity of their simple rock and roll. I mean, if you can't move you hips to La Bamba and C'mon Let's Go, you really have no chance in this world. Granted these are Ritchie Valens songs, but they made them so popular. Their original catalogue though is so vast and they have been playing, touring and keeping audiences so happy for 50 years. I mean they were literally a wedding band for the first years and then they recorded their Mexican "Just Another Band From East L.A ", a record I wore out on my turntable. Then came "How Will the Wolf Survive" and "Kiko" and so many more and then they opened for Bob and the Dead and nothing more needs to be said. I love them and the fam loves them. So, I get the tickets in like September for the March show, tell everyone to put it in their calendar, and about 2 weeks before the show, the sister in law says to the Mrs, that she has a credit at the hotel that has to be used by end of March! Is there an emoji that can properly state the emotion here? Staycation, albeit for 1 night, but the best part was the hotel is literally right across the road from the venue! Actually the best part, was that the hotel was free and there was even some credit left over, so breakfast the next morning was au gratis too! Fortunate, lucky, blessed, elated. Dinner before the show? - Big Mac down the street! Who doesn't love a fancy feast before a rock and roll show? Off to the show, dance, listen, enjoy and obviously see some pals who likewise relish in all of the goodness Los Lobos has to offer. Had a quickie with them after the show and off to bed.

SET UP

2 adjoining rooms at the Royal Sonesta formerly known as The Intercontinental. Literally right across the road from the beautiful Koerner Hall. The Mrs. and I had the king bed and the kids with 2 queens. Both really spacious rooms, clean and freshly face lifted. Huge bathroom/water closet/washroom. Kids beds never made - what else is new.

MATTRESS

Simmons Beautyrest BLACK collection. These full zip encasements are so great and every hotel should have them, but it really doesn't make for a good picture. The Black collection is a step up from the regular Beautyrest as it has some layers of visco and latex foam which can provide a more conforming layer to ones body. The mattress layering is what it is all about. I have written about this in the past, the more and different types of layers in a mattress the better to a point. It can have significant impact on the contouring and overall comfort of a mattress. If you want to take a deep dive, send me a note, but you are looking for a variety of inside layers and also different thicknesses of it. Lends to a much more luxurious feel - not in all cases but most! Great mattress here and really wonderful sleep. Available not just to hotels but any of your local bed folks.

SLEEP

Really great. The room, as mentioned, was really clean and fresh and the temperature was just right. The mattress, linens and pillows all did their job and got a solid 8 hours. Was hoping for a bit of a Sunday sleep in and got it! The kind when no alarm is needed and the wake up is natural, free of disturbances, noises and light!

OVERALL

One time, One Night. I absolutely love these boys. So solid at everything they do and to see them at home with the fam at a beautiful venue and have the bonus of staying in a beautiful hotel after right across the street. Not the ultimate mic drop, but pretty close! Get out in your own city and explore, there will be things you have never seen before and often times we forget and under appreciate what your own backyard has to offer. I look forward to another one of these nights soon. 🎶🎻🎷🎺🎸🎹🥁👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 💃
