The step sister in law told us to come out to Telluride for a few days over Christmas and we jumped on that opportunity to be with them as we hadn't seen her for a while and was so happy to get the invite and get some skiing in. It was also discussed that the whole familia would descend upon the desert to be with the folks, might not be many left of these, so how could we fit in both? As you know by know, I have always been a road trippin' kind of guy and after this last summer with the Mrs., there was now another great chance for another mini one! Telluride to Palm Springs. Booked the car and was nervous as there were not very many big ones left - HOPING to get an upgrade. Planned the route and 6 hours to Sedona, Arizona, and then another 5 and half to the desert. PPPPFFFFFF, easy peasy. Nothing at all, all through some back roads with some interesting stops along the way on the map, although didn't plan much and it backfired a bit. Pack the skiis, pack the pickleball racquets, pack the swimmers and the gutkes, pack the t shirts and the sweaters. This will be fun - right? Hoping for an upgrade on the car. Airport check in, 2 ski bags, 2 extremely heavy overweight bags and of course some personal items. NEEDING an upgrade on the car. Brought straps along, just in case to strap skis to roof, and after no extra bag fees in Toronto (still can't explain that one, only thought was it was 4 am and no once seemed to care too much). Boarded with only 1 thing on the mind. Landed with only 1 thing on mind, saunter up to the counter and before I even ask, the lovely gal hands me keys to a Jeep Grand Cherokee! I know everyone has had that moment of ease, that moment of relaxation, that moment of weightlessness, and I know this was just for a silly little thing and it should be the worst thing to happen to me in my life, but what a feeling, what a rush. Auto upgrade for having a silver coloured credit card. Party can start, zen achieved and off to the races. The skiing was amazing, albeit not much snow, and we had an amazing visit and Christmas eve with family. Wake up to a full snowstorm, the day we hit the road, great, now the snow comes? Great drive and was hoping to catch a site or 2, when we see a sign for 4 Corners. YES! This is the spot where Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado all come together - excited! Well, call us the Griswolds, not because we had Aunt Edna strapped to the roof, but closed 3 days of the year, 25th of December being one of them. We got a picture at the gate. Kids laughed, we laughed, and back in the car. Anyhoo, the rest of the trip went off without a hitch and had some amazing time with our family and great to be with everyone always. The night in Sedona, brought us a great night sleep as did the rest of the vacation, I'm thinking mainly due to the BIGGER CAR.
SET UP
2 queen beds at the Amara Resort. Beautiful spot right in the beating heart of the one strip touristy part of Sedona. Would recommend highly for it's location and good amenities. Stunning pool with stunning views. The room itself had a balcony and a good size room, especially for the 4 of us for a quick layover. I slept with the boy to rekindle our NY relationship, and the Mrs. got the girl and probably best because she is still a kicker and a bit more restless.
MATTRESS

Again hard to see as the zipper encasement was on, which I love, but Simmons Beautyrest, pretty good mattress, not well worn and a bit of a softer pillowtop on it. Another nice choice for a hotel, nothing out of the norm and nothing overly tired.
SLEEP
Sure, why not. Decently even with the boy by my side. Woke up early with the Mrs. to get in a good walk and a specialty coffee, had some tremendous views befoer getting on the road again.
OVERALL
Another notch in the belt on another Christmas vacation. Family, food, laughs and road trippin'. Skiing, swimming, hiking, driving, pickleballing, tennising and so much more. I am lucky and I am appreciative of it. It might have been the last time all of us, most importantly my folks, are together in the desert again. I hope not of course, but maybe and it made this time around so much more special. I have been told that it's not what happens to you, but rather for you. Take the opportunity to make it as best as you can. Make the most of what you have and don't lose yourself in the past or the future. It's easy to get caught in worries and anger and fear, but to be present is paramount to our success in life. 🎾🚘🗻🌄🌞🎿
